NASHUA, NH – For the second time in three years, The College of Saint Rose will be going to the NCAA Championships as the women's team took home a third place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championships to qualify for the trip to Joplin, MO out of 28 teams in the field. The men's squad also performed well, finishing ninth out of 27 teams.
“I am absolutely elated for the women's team,” said coach
Andrew Rickert. “Both teams bought into the process from day one and remained faithful and patient. Today's races were a culmination of many weeks of hard work and the student-athletes truly peaked at the right time. It was a total team effort and I couldn't have asked for a better result.”
In that women's 6k race, five Saint Rose finishers were grouped together for score finishes of 25th place through 39th as the whole helped put together a third place finish that gives them a team bid to the NCAA Championships. Junior
Jordan Westcott ran the fastest time in Golden Knights history on a 6k course, being the first Saint Rose student-athlete to cross the finish line at 22:21.5 for 25th place. Finishing back-to-back were a couple of seniors in 31st and 32nd as
Emma Cohen and
Dana Welch had times of 22:59.9 and 23:00.6 respectively. Not too far behind in 34th was sophomore
Bianca Jordan, clocking in at 23:02.0. Rounding out the top five for Saint Rose was senior
Patty Massa at a time of 23:09.8. All of these times were personal records for each Golden Knight on a 6k course.
Sophomore
Kristen Harrington ran a 23:41 for a 52nd overall finish and a personal record. Senior
Grace Giampaglia rounded out the seven runners of Saint Rose in an overall place of 63rd after posting a 23:59.9 time.
A solid showing on the men's side also was evident as many of these runners made a 10k course debut. Marking the third best 10k time in Saint Rose accolades was sophomore
Eamonn Coughlin. Coughlin ran a 32:02.4 to lead the Golden Knights in a scoring 39th place. Following directly behind in a scoring place of 41st was classmate
Dominick Costanzo as he timed in at 32:05.6. For a 55th scoring place, senior
Samson Dikeman ran a 32:35.0 while a time of 33:04.7 was achieved by freshman #Andrew-Reifmann-Packett#. Capping the top five Saint Rose runners was freshman
Jonathan Cahill, registering a 33:29.3 time.
Junior
Eric Young concluded his day running a 34:14.8 for 105th place. Finalizing the Golden Knights to cross the finish line was freshman
Krystopher Lotocky in 128th after a 35:08.8 time. All of these times posted by Saint Rose individuals were personal records on a 10k course.
Next stop for the women's squad is a Saturday, November 17th date in Joplin for the NCAA Championships. The meet is scheduled for a 12:30 pm start time at the Missouri State Southern University cross country course.
