NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose cross country teams traveled to compete in the MSMC Knight Invitational this morning. The Women's 6K and Men's 8K events were held at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome and hosted by Mount Saint Mary College.
Kicking off the morning in the women's race, the Golden Knights set the tone for a strong day as Saint Rose saw four runners finish in the top-35 of the 6K. Freshman
Elizabeth Mattair crossed the line first for Saint Rose to take 13th place in 28:52.0. Sophomore
Fabiola Gomez was next to finish, running a 30:38.4 to earn 27th place. Sophomore
Faith Borkowski was right behind Gomez in 28th place, clocking 30:44.7 and freshman
Brooke Iannone finished in the 32nd spot with a final time of 31:24.8.
Freshman
Matthew Waruch was the first of three Golden Knights to finish in the top-20 of the men's 8K. Waruch finished in 12th place in 29:45.7, followed by freshman
Kyle Ostrander in the 13th spot with a career-best 8K time of 29:45.7. Sophomore
Camden Malone finished out the Saint Rose top-three, crossing in 30:31.2 for 18th place.
The Saint Rose women finished in fifth place out of nine teams in the overall team scores, with Sage earning the top place for the 6K event. In the men's 8K, SUNY Cobleskill took first place in the team standings as the Golden Knights earned fifth place of the nine teams competing.
Saint Rose next returns to competition on Friday in the R.K. Munsey Invitational. The day's events will be held on the campus of the host University of Albany, with a starting time yet to be announced.
