ALBANY – Senior first baseman
Paul Partridge blasted a two out, home run over the left-center field fence in the 11th inning to lead The College of Saint Rose past visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival UMass Lowell 6-5 this afternoon at Bleecker Stadium.
It marked a pleasant turn of events for the Golden Knights (15-22/10-12 NE-10) who had already dropped two, one-run games this weekend; including a 4-3 setback in the finale of yesterday's doubleheader at UMass Lowell. The River Hawks (20-12/12-8 NE-10) did not go easily though. They rallied from a 5-3 deficit with a pair of runs in the ninth to force Saint Rose to play its seventh extra-inning affair of the year. Saint Rose is now 4-3 in those encounters.
Sophomore left fielder
Garret Keenan had a two-run, home run; while junior center fielder
Ryan Price and junior catcher
John Cole finished with two hits apiece to lead the Golden Knights attack. Price also scored twice, while Keenan finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Sophomore right-hander
Nick Polsinelli came out of the bullpen to start the sixth and retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced, before surrendering a home run and a base hit to open the ninth. Polsinelli wound up allowing two runs on a pair of hits throughout 3.0-plus innings of work. Sophomore southpaw
David Batchelder got the start and surrendered four hits that produced three runs throughout the first 5.0 innings. Meanwhile, senior right-hander
Jeremiah St. Louis picked up the win after tossing 3.0 innings of two-hit ball.
Junior left fielder Peter Onorato went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs while junior catcher Jared Notargiacomo finished 3-for-3 with a home run to lead the River Hawks, who had their four-game win streak snapped. Also, junior shortstop JT Leary went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.
After UMass Lowell scored three times in the fourth thanks mostly to an Onorato two run base hit, Saint Rose answered with a four-run fifth inning. Keenan's two run shot made it a one run ballgame. The Golden Knights then drew three consecutive walks. An RBI ground out by junior catcher
John Cole tied it up, before an infield base hit off the bat of freshman shortstop
Nick Alexandrovich made it 4-3 Saint Rose.
The Golden Knights then appeared to put themselves in the catbird seat in the eighth when Price bunted for a base hit, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice by sophomore third baseman
Grant Smith. Keenan then came through again with a run scoring single down the left field line that afforded Saint Rose what turned out to be a brief 5-3 advantage.
The Golden Knights have a non-league road game at Saint Michael's on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm in Colchester, VT. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell opens a three-game series with a 3:30 pm date at NE-10 rival Assumption College in Worcester, MA on Tuesday.
