ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose earned a split over Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi this afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field.
Randall Alejo struck out nine batters over 7.0 innings to lead Saint Rose to rebound for a 6-5 victory in game two. The Golden Knights were shut out 5-0 in the opener.
A two-run home run by
James Ward out to left field gave the Golden Knights the early advantage in the finale.
Ethan Farina and
Vince Venditti drove solo shots out to left as well to supplement the Saint Rose offense. Ward and Farina also added RBI with fielders-choice ground outs in the middle innings.
The Golden Knights led 6-2 after seven, but the Panthers tallied three runs on five hits in the top of the eighth to tighten the margin going into the final frames. Adelphi put a potential-tying run on base in the ninth, however
Gabe Stewart came in get the final three outs, including ground-ball double play to secure the victory.
The two squads three-game set tomorrow at 12:00 pm at Bellizzi Field.
