COLCHESTER, VT – The College of Saint Rose scored five times in the ninth inning to hand host Saint Michael's College a 6-1 non-conference setback this afternoon.
Freshman third baseman
Jesse Burba went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored, while junior center fielder
Ryan Price had two hits as well to lead the Golden Knights (16-22).
Freshman left fielder Tim McDonnell and rookie shortstop Patrick Lawler had two hits each to lead Saint Michael's (11-17).
In the ninth, sophomore left fielder
Garret Keenan drew a walk and senior designated hitter
Dominick Iaconis singled to start things off for Saint Rose. After a ground out by senior first baseman
Paul Partridge put both runners in scoring position, Burba stroked a base hit to make it 3-1 Golden Knights.
Burba then stole third and came across courtesy of a Saint Michael's error. One batter later, freshman second baseman
Michael Carbone doubled home freshman shortstop
Nick Alexandrovich. Price followed with a double to bring across Carbone with the final run.
The Purple Knights managed to get the leadoff runner on base in the home half, but junior right-hander
Nate Ward retired the next three batters in order to end the ballgame.
After Saint Michael's took a 1-0 lead in the third, Saint Rose took advantage of two errors to tie it an inning later. The Purple Knights then put a runner in scoring position in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth frames; but could not produce dividends and thus wound up leaving 11 men on base.
In upcoming action, the Golden Knights have a non-league road game at Dominican College tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm in Orangeburg. Meanwhile, Saint Michael's has a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Castleton State on Saturday.
