MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose women finished fourth among eight competing teams at the season-opening Shacklette Invitational that was hosted by Saint Anselm College this afternoon. The Golden Knights men's squad ran incomplete. Overall, Stonehill had six of the top-10 finishers in the women's competition and six of the top-nine performances in the men's race to complete the sweep.
Junior Jordan Westcott led the Golden Knights by finishing fifth among 113 entries. Westcott covered the 5K layout 19:21.0, 26 seconds ahead of junior Bianca Jordan who crossed the line 13th in 19:47.1. Junior Kristen Harrington and freshman Emily Baker came in together in 23rd and 24th with respective times of 20:30.1 and 20:30.5, while senior Samantha Capece ran a 21:26.3 to place 39th.
Furthermore, freshman Alicia Bousa, sophomore Danielle Shine, freshman Kiersten Anderson, and senior Brittany Papuzza rounded out the Saint Rose contingent. Bousa and Shine were 55th and 94th with respective times of 21:54.3 and 24:14.8, Anderson was 100th with a 24:43.4 clocking and Papuzza went 25:11.3 to wind up 102nd.
For the men, senior Eric Young and freshman Benjamin Kapuscinski paced the Golden Knights by finishing 24th and 29th respectively among 81 entries. Young crossed the line in 28:27.1 while Kapuscinski finished in 28:57.4. Senior Mike Corrado completed the 8K course in 30:09.3 and freshman Joseph Becker ran a 30:17.5 in his collegiate debut.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have two weeks to prepare for The Saratoga Invitational that is scheduled for Friday, September 20. RPI is hosting the meet at Saratoga State Park.
