Senior midfielder Sydney Bond finished with three goals to help lead the Golden Knights past Nyack 7-0 in tonight's season-opener.
Box Score

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose scored three times in the opening 21 minutes and never looked back en route to a 7-0 non-conference victory against visiting Nyack tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Senior midfielder Sydney Bond scored three goals and senior forward Carmelina Puopolo scored twice to become the lone player in Golden Knights annals to record 50 career strikes. She also had a pair of assists in the 2013 season-opener for both squads.

Saint Rose controlled the pace of play throughout and was never in any danger in its own end. The Golden Knights manufactured a 26-0 shot advantage and engineered nine corner kicks, without yielding any.

Sophomore midfielder Gianna Smith and freshman forward Sammy Blizzard accounted for the final two strikes while junior forward Meeghan Arno set up Smith's goal that made it 4-0 Golden Knights (1-0) in the 32nd minute.

Bond touched home a Puopolo corner from the right flag with only 6:27 elapsed for what proved to the game-winner for the Golden Knights, who were ranked #4 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II preseason poll. Puopolo then converted a penalty kick less than two minutes later for her 50th strike.

Saint Rose subsequently added three more goals within a 15 minute span to take a 5-0 lead at intermission. Puopolo made it 6-0 in the 54th minute and then Blizzard closed out the scoring with her first collegiate marker in the 80th minute.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will host Felician this Saturday for a 2:00 pm non-conference match. Meanwhile, Nyack faces another Northeast-10 Conference foe on the road this Tuesday, September 10. The Warriors will head to Pleasantville, NY to meet Pace University at 4:00 pm.
