MIA KLAMMER VOTED D2CCA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

FLUSHING, N.Y.– Junior forward Mia Klammer of The College of Saint Rose has been named the 2023 Division II Ron Lenz Conference Commissioners Association Women's Soccer Player of the Year.

Klammer becomes the second player in Saint Rose women's soccer history to earn a national player of the year distinction, following Carmelina Puopolo in 2011 and 2012. Klammer earned the honor after finishing first in NCAA Division II with 53 total points. She was voted both the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year and D2CCA East Region Player of the Year after she led the region with 18 goals and 17 assists, with the latter mark matching the Saint Rose record for most assists in a season.

"Mia Klammer is not only an incredible athlete and student, but she is a remarkable human being," said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Lori Anctil. "I am thrilled that her work ethic, relentless competitive spirit, commitment, and exceptional talent is being honored with this most prestigious award. Mia is the kind of student-athlete that every coach, teammate and administrator would dream of having in their program. I cannot wait to see what is next for her. I know her opportunities are endless."

"Mia is an exceptional player. She is a gifted goal scorer and play maker. Mia combines a rare level of athleticism and technical ability with a brilliant understanding of the game and passion to win," said Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil. "She is extremely unselfish and creates goal-scoring opportunities for her teammates just as well as she finishes scoring chances herself. Mia is also an outstanding leader who works incredibly hard to be her best on and off the field. She contributes to our team success every day. One of her greatest role models from the United States Women's National Team was Abby Wambach and anyone who has watched Mia play in person can certainly see the striking similarities and how Mia plays a lot like Abby Wambach did. This honor is extremely well deserved and we are very proud of her."

In addition to earning first team All-NE10 honors for the third straight year, Klammer was named the Most Value Player of the conference postseason tournament after tallying four goals and three assists in four playoff matches. She was selected as the league's Player of the Week on three occasions (8/31, 10/9, and 10/23) and received two National Player of the Week honors from the United Soccer Coaches Association throughout the regular season.

Klammer helped the Golden Knights finish the fall with a historic unbeaten record of 20-0-2, as this was the first team in Saint Rose program history to register at least 20 wins without a defeat.
