ALBANY-Another stellar season for The College of Saint Rose came to a close this afternoon with a 2-0 NCAA Tournament third-round setback to American International on Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Yellow Jackets (17-2-2), ranked #13 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll, struck twice within the opening 26 minutes en route to their first National Quarterfinal appearance.

American International will now face either California, PA or Slippery Rock at Sullivan Field on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

Senior forward Mariah Shade scored both goals to lead the Yellow Jackets (17-2-2) while junior back Caroline Boyce, sophomore back Romina Bell and junior forward Sonia Basma each picked up an assist.

Junior keeper Sam Tabak made all three saves in the second half for American International while senior Jessica Gerski recorded a stop in each half for the fourth ranked Golden Knights (20-1-2).

Bell initiated the first strike with a free kick from midfield that sailed to the right side of the area. Boyce then touched it on a diagonal across to Shade who drove it home with 15:03 elapsed. Eleven minutes later, Basma set up Shade with an insurance marker.

The shots wound up at 12 apiece. Each squad also engineered five corner kick opportunities with Saint Rose pushing the pressure throughout the final 45 minutes after the Yellow Jackets manufactured 7-3 shot advantage throughout the first period.

Despite today's outcome, Saint Rose further solidified itself as one of the nation's top collegiate soccer programs at any level this autumn. The Golden Knights recorded their sixth straight 20-win season, set a school record with 19 shutouts and won their sixth Northeast-10 Conference Championship within the past seven seasons. They furthermore advanced to their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament Regional Championship game.

Furthermore, Gerski and the senior class that also includes midfielders Sydney Bond, Laura Taylor, Allison Schmidt and Niki Smith, and forward Carmelina Puopolo, strung together an 87-6-6 (.909) record throughout the past four years. They were also part of the 2011 National Championship squad.
