BOCA RATON, FL – The College of Saint Rose split a doubleheader with Bloomfield today in what commenced its annual Florida trip during spring break. The Golden Knights (2-4) broke apart a 4-4 game with four runs in the seventh and final frame of the opener, but could only generate seven base runners in a 2-1 setback in the finale.
Senior right-hander
Jeremiah St. Louis settled down in the first game, while fellow senior righty
Brendon Malkowski was a hard luck loser in the nightcap.
After giving up three runs in the second and another in the third, St. Louis tossed 4.0 innings of no-hit ball and at one point retired nine straight to even his record at 1-1 on the year. Junior left fielder
Ryan Price went 2-for-3 and reached base four times to lead the Saint Rose attack. Also, freshman second baseman
Michael Carbone finished 3-for-4 and rookie shortstop
Nick Alexandrovich had a pair of base hits and scored two runs to help the Golden Knights cause.
Sophomore right fielder
Angel Nunez provided the winning run in the seventh with an RBI base hit up the middle that scored senior first baseman
Paul Partridge. Junior catcher
Derek Marshall also scored on the play via a Bloomfield error.
In the finale, Malkowski fanned eight and allowed one earned run on five hits over the 7.0 inning distance. Bloomfield managed to score an unearned run in the second, before plating the game-winner in the fourth. Nunez went 2-for-3 and sophomore center fielder
Garret Keenan had a leadoff double and eventually came around to score the lone Saint Rose run in the sixth.
