GOLDEN KNIGHTS HAVE USUAL LOFTY GOALS

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose arrives at the outset of the 2021 season with its usual lofty goals. The Golden Knights, who played only one official match last spring due to the COVID 19 pandemic, will open their campaign at home today versus Caldwell University. Northeast-10 Conference action gets underway on Saturday, September 12 with a road date at Saint Anselm in Manchester, N.H.

Saint Rose managed to take advantage of last spring by integrating a large talented group of newcomers into its culture of competitiveness and excellence, which bodes well for the upcoming campaign.

Among the key returnees from the senior dominated 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Championship and NCAA National Semifinal squad are fifth-year All-American keeper Marika Laurendeau, junior Luisa Gaudl who has been a staple in the back throughout her career, sophoomore back Sanna Rein, and senior midfielder Ciera Lundy. Also returning is 2019 NE10 Rookie of the Year and United Soccer Coaches All-East forward Olivia Boucher. Boucher finished second, behind only teammate and former All-American forward Nina Predanic, among the conference's top point producers in 2019.

Some of the newcomers to keep an eye on are freshman forward Mia Klammer, junior midfielder Janina Mueller, freshman back Ryleigh Hopeck, sophomore forward/midfielders Lauren Amerena, Jen Bartlett, and Paula Toledo, and sophomore back Kelly Coster.

The Golden Knights, who are favored to captured their ninth NE10 Championship according to the coaches' preseason poll, will certainly have a fresh look this autumn. Regardless, the goals remain high for a program that has recorded 20 consecutive winning seasons, 11th most in NCAA Division II annals.

From a broader view, Saint Rose has made 15 NCAA Tournament appearances within the past 18 traditional competitive seasons (not including 2020) and has tied an NE10 record with eight league postseason championships. In addition, the Golden Knights are one of only three NCAA Division II sides, along with Grand Valley State and West Florida, that have won at least 22 matches on three occasions. They won 24 contests in 2009 and in their 2011 National Championship campaign, and posted 23 victories in 2010.
