Box Score
SYRACUSE–The College of Saint Rose broke open a 1-0 game with three goals during a five minute span midway through the second half to win its Northeast-10 Conference opener 4-0 at Le Moyne this afternoon. In the process, the Golden Knights (5-0/1-0 NE-10) snapped the Dolphins (3-3/1-1 NE-10) three-game win streak and gained the first point in the fourth annual Upstate Challenge rivalry series between the two schools.

Saint Rose, the nation's top-ranked NCAA Division II team according to this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll, had a balanced attack with six players figuring in the scoring column. Junior forward Jennifer Busk finished with a goal and two assists, senior forward Carmelina Puopolo had one of each, and senior back Jourdan Thompson set up a pair of strikes.

Additionally, freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt and senior forward Meeghan Arno also scored, while junior midfielder Amanda Vasquez helped design the game's third score.

For Puopolo, it marked her 50th career assist that puts her in a tie for 12th among the all-time leaders in NCAA Division II annals.

The Golden Knights dictated the pace early on by engineering three shots and a pair of corner kicks in the opening 17 minutes. Burchhardt made the pressure pay dividends on a header off a Thompson deflection from a Busk corner at the 16:46 mark.

Thompson then sent in a cross that Puopolo delivered into the net for her league-leading seventh strike of the season. Two minutes after that, Puopolo booted a corner that Vasquez redirected to Busk who buried her shot from inside the left post to make it 3-0 Saint Rose. Arno then closed out the scoring by converting a Busk cross from the right end line.

In goal, sophomore Ashley Homer made all three of her saves in the second period to secure her fourth clean sheet of the season. Junior Tori Corsaro made four stops for the Dolphins.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home Saturday, September 20 to host NE-10 rival Southern New Hampshire in a match that may be seen live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have an 11:00 am conference meeting Saturday at Stonehill in Easton, MA.
