Box Score
ALBANY–Junior attack
Colin Sorber finished a feed from fellow junior attack
Evan Helming with 1:02 remaining to lift The College of Saint Rose to a thrilling 6-5 win versus
Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University this evening at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
The game appeared destined for overtime as the visiting Setters (2-6/1-6 NE-10) scored three answered goals throughout the fourth quarter to tie it 5-5 with 1:47 to go. Junior forward Adam Mirkin provided the tying strike off an assist from senior midfielder Tommy Gilmore.
Pace then won the ensuing faceoff to put itself in position for the win, but Saint Rose junior defenseman
Jake Files, who entered the evening 13th in the country with 2.13 caused turnovers per-game, was at his best when he forced the Setters to cough up their opportunity. He then collected the subsequent groundball and Sorber made sure it paid off.
Pace still afforded itself another opportunity by winning the final faceoff, but after settling into its offensive zone, senior attack William Scioscia had his shot sail wide as time ran out.
The game was evenly played with the Golden Knights engineering a 24-23 advantage in shots, including a 12-11 differential in threats on goal. Conversely, the Setters won eight of 15 faceoffs.
For the Golden Knights, Helming finished with a goal and two assists while senior attack
Brett McAuliffe had a goal and set up another. Files accounted for the other Saint Rose strike. In the back, sophomore defenseman
Trey Jackson recorded three caused turnovers, while freshman goalie
Joe Shapiro made four of his six saves after halftime.
Senior attack Matt Gebhardt had a pair of goals and a helper to spearhead the Pace offense.
Looking ahead, both teams are in action on Saturday. The Golden Knights have a 1:00 pm NE-10 date at Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, while the Setters will host conference rival Merrimack at 12:00 pm.
