Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, MA–The College of Saint Rose bounced back from a four-goal halftime deficit to get to within one only to fall 8-6 at Northeast-10 Conference rival American International today. The Golden Knights (1-7/1-4 NE-10) outshot the Yellow Jackets 34-29 and had nine fewer turnovers, but led for just a 13-second span in the opening period.

Meanwhile, American International (1-8/1-4 NE-10) outscored Saint Rose 3-0 in the second quarter to take a 7-3 halftime lead that proved to be enough of a cushion.

Junior attack Evan Helming had his second consecutive three-goal game and senior attack Brett McAuliffe had a goal and a pair of assists to lead the Golden Knights scoring parade. Sophomore midfielder Cameron Fischer added a goal and an assist, while junior attack Colin Sorber found the back of the net as well.

In the back, freshman goalkeeper Joe Shapiro recorded 11 saves and caused a pair of turnovers. Junior defenseman Pat Sunday also had two caused turnovers.

Saint Rose responded to its deficit with a strong start in the second half. Helming finished a feed from sophomore midfielder Mike Balla four minutes in and junior attack Kevin Fleming set up Fischer on a man-up situation to make it a 7-5 game heading to the fourth. Helming then got Saint Rose to within a goal, 7-6, when he collected a pass from McAuliffe and struck with 10:02 to go.

However, junior attack Bobby Spano took advantage of a Golden Knights penalty with his second goal of the game that put the Yellow Jackets up by a pair with 7:27 left.

Saint Rose engineered two more shots, but Fischer's attempt with 56 seconds left went wide. The Yellow Jackets subsequently managed a successful clear and were thus able to wind the clock down.

Freshman attack Justin Bard finished with five points behind three goals and two assists, while Spano also had an assist to lead American International. Furthermore, junior goalkeeper Perry Booker made 15 saves, including seven in the decisive second stanza.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are off until next Tuesday, April 1 when they will visit conference rival Adelphi for a 6:00 pm game on Long Island. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are on the road this Saturday, March 29 with an 11:00 am conference date at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH.
