ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose scored five goals in the fourth quarter after trailing by as many as six only to suffer an 11-8 defeat to Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Junior attacks Evan Helming and Colin Sorber paced the Golden Knights (1-6/1-3 NE-10) offense. Helming scored a season-high three goals and added an assist, while Sorber finished with a pair of strikes and an assist. Junior midfielders Kris Miller and Ryan McFee, and senior midfielder Rich Bamberger all had one goal each, while junior attack Kevin Fleming set up two scores.

Between the posts, freshman goalkeeper Joe Shapiro came up with a season-high 14 saves.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Purple Knights (1-4/1-1 NE-10) boosted a 3-1 halftime lead to 4-1 in the opening minute of the third quarter, before Sorber finished a Helming feed and McFee scored unassisted to get Saint Rose back to within one, 4-3, with 11:09 to go.

However, Saint Michael's scored five unanswered goals to afford itself a 9-3 cushion in the final minute of the period.

Saint Rose kept its composure and got two back as Bamberger and Miller both scored unassisted 43 seconds apart to make it 9-5 game with 11:23 to play. Senior attack Evan Antolino then sandwiched a pair of goals around a Sorber strike within a five minute span to put the Purple Knights in control behind an 11-6 advantage with 6:54 showing on the clock.

Helming then added a pair of tallies, but the Purple Knights won the final faceoff and the Golden Knights were whistled for two penalties that allowed their guests to run out the clock.

Antolino and senior midfielder Cooper Quenneville each found the back of the net three times to lead the Saint Michael's attack. Sophomore goalkeeper T.J. Bicknell recorded four of his seven saves in the fourth quarter.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose has a 4:00 pm conference date at American International this Tuesday, March 25 in Springfield, MA. Meanwhile, the Purple Knights have a 3:00 pm league date versus Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday.
