Box Score

WORCESSTER, MA – The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 9-6 deficit late in the third quarter to upend host Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption 11-10 today.

Senior attack Brett McAuliffe had four unassisted goals and set up two others to lead the Golden Knights (1-5/1-2 NE-10) offense. It marked the eighth time throughout his career that McAuliffe tallied at least four goals. He also ran his current goal scoring streak to five games.

Junior attack Colin Sorber, senior midfielder Rich Bamberger, and junior midfielder Kris Miller each struck twice, while junior attack Evan Helming scored once. Bamberger and Miller also had one assist apiece.

Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Joe Shapiro recorded six of his 10 saves after halftime.

The conference's top-two point producers, junior attack Paul Curran and junior midfielder Garrett Smith spearheaded the Assumption charge. The former scored five goals and assisted on two others, while Smith found the back of the net on four occasions.

The Golden Knights registered five unanswered strikes during a seven minute stretch that spanned the third and fourth quarters and subsequently turned a three-goal deficit into a two-goal advantage. McAuliffe's fourth tally afforded the game its seventh tie at 9-9 with 13:39 to go. Sorber then finished a Bamberger feed on a man-up situation and Bamberger scored unassisted with 7:21 showing on the clock.

Assumption (3-3/1-2 NE-10) subsequently got back to within one when Smith found the back of the net at the 1:31 mark with three seconds remaining on a Saint Rose penalty. The Greyhounds made one final push by coming up with a turnover, but Smith's shot with three ticks left sailed wide to allow Saint Rose to chalk up the first career win for head coach Mark Cometti.

Looking ahead, both squads have home conference matches Saturday. The Golden Knights will entertain Saint Michael's at 1:00 pm, while the Greyhounds will host Saint Anselm at 12:00 pm.
