Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead to upend The College of Saint Rose 11-3 in the 2014 season-opener for both squads today.

Freshmen attack Max Allen and Tucker Schwarz, and sophomore midfielder Ryan Poirier each scored twice for the Warriors (1-0).
Saint Rose (0-1) tied it 1-1 midway through the first quarter when Fleming scored a man-up goal unassisted. However, Merrimack countered with four unanswered tallies to go back up 5-1 until Fleming struck with 7:26 left in the third. The Warriors then scored twice in the final five minutes of the third to go up 7-2, before Mello found the back of the net with 8:11 left in the game that made it 7-3 Merrimack.
Looking ahead, both squads have 3:00 pm home games this Tuesday, March 4. The Golden Knights are scheduled to play their 2014 home opener versus Chestnut Hill while the Warriors are set to host conference rival Franklin Pierce.
