Last Time Out: The College of Saint Rose punched its ticket to a sixth NCAA Tournament National Quarterfinal within the past seven years behind Friday's 3-0 East Region Final victory versus 17th-ranked Mercy at West Chester. Senior back Jourdan Thompson wrapped a pair of strikes around an own goal to lead Saint Rose to the win on a 32 degree, blustery afternoon. Thompson knocked home a loose ball following a corner kick by junior forward Jennifer Busk with less than five minutes remaining until halftime for what held up as the game-winner. The Golden Knights got an insurance marker with 70:59 gone by when a miscommunication between a Mercy defender and junior keeper Nicole Augustine led to the own goal. Thompson then touched home a feed from freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt four minutes later to put the Golden Knights in the catbird seat. Augustine came up with five saves for the Mavericks who set a school record with their 17 victories this autumn. Meanwhile, sophomore Ashley Homer made a stop in each period as Saint Rose recorded its 15th shutout of the year.
 
Last Meeting (11/18/12): Saint Rose chalked up a 4-1 on victory on this pitch, which was the last game played on Rockwell Field's natural grass, to advance to its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament national semifinal. The Golden Knights scored three times within less than a five minute span of the first half. Four different players  figured in the goal scoring. Meanwhile, keeper Jessica Gerski made five of her six saves in the second half, including a pair of spectacular ones in the final 15 minutes, after the Golden Rams moved 10 players forward in an effort to cut into their deficit. Molly Harpster got the scoring started, senior forward Carmelina Puopolo registered the game-winner, Sydney Bond made it a 3-0 affair at halftime and junior midfielder Michaela Phillips struck in the early going of the second period to account for the scoring.
 
Scouting #6 Saint Rose (20-1-2): The Golden Knights are 23-10-2 all-time in NCAA Tournament contests. This is the 12th time in 13 years that Saint Rose is competing in the field. Today represents the Golden Knights sixth national quarterfinal appearance (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012) within the past seven years. They have won each of those contests and in 2011 went on to win the National Championship. Friday's victory versus Mercy propelled Saint Rose to its seventh consecutive 20-win season. The Golden Knights are 14th in the country in scoring offense (2.57) and are fifth in team goals-against-average (0.380) according to the most recent NCAA report. They have shutout 15 of their 23 opponents, including four of five in the postseason. Saint Rose has furthermore won seven straight and is 4-0-2 in overtime. Sixteen players have at least one goal including Puopolo who stands second nationally with 20 goals and third with 47 points. Nine of her strikes have been game-winners. Her 20 strikes furthermore tie her own single-season school record. Burchhardt has eight goals and 10 assists, which ties her for the team lead with Busk. Homer has logged all of the squad's 2,154 minutes, third most in the country, and is sixth nationally with a 0.380 GAA. Thompson plays a key role in the middle of the defense. She is flanked by senior La'Quilla Upton and junior Nicole Shively, and plays behind Phillips, a central defensive midfielder. Senior forward Meeghan Arno, senior midfielder Emily Benjamin, junior midfielders Gianna Smith and Amanda Vasquez, and freshman midfielder Roxana Hernandez have combined for seven goals and four assists.
 
Scouting #18 West Chester (17-2-2): The Golden Rams advanced with Friday's 1-0 Atlantic Region Final win versus West Virginia Wesleyan. They earned a first-round bye and advanced in the second-round on penalty kicks after playing to a 2-2 draw with California University (PA). West Chester is 9-1-2 at home this season, has outscored its opponents 50-13, and features five double-digit point producers. Senior midfielder Carly Yost, sophomore forward Kara Parvel, and freshman forward Marissa Valenti lead the attack. Yost has 20 points on seven goals and six assists, Parvel has 18 points behind a team-leading eight strikes and a pair of helpers, while Valenti has 17 points on six goals and five assists. Between the posts, sophomore keeper Alex Srolis is 17-1-2 with a 0.55 GAA on the strength of eight shutouts. She has logged 1,800 of the team's 1,977 minutes.
 
Up Next: The winner of today's match will advance the Championship Finals (Final Four) in Louisville. The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, December 4. The national title match will take place on Saturday, December 6.
