SYRACUSE–A pair of goals in the final 20 minutes propelled The College of Saint Rose to a 2-0 victory at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne today. In the process, the Golden Knights (4-0/1-0 NE-10) extended their season-long shutout streak to four games and took the first available point in the year-long
Upstate Challenge" rivalry series between the two institutions.
Saint Rose, ranked #2 in this week's
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll, outshot the Dolphins by an 11-2 margin and engineered seven corner kicks, while surrendering just one, throughout the final 45 minutes.
Sophomore midfielders
Kristin Carr and
Amanda Vasquez accounted for the two Golden Knights markers.
Carr struck with 71:11 elapsed when she blasted home a shot in front of the goal that freshman back/midfielder
Elisa Galbiati delivered to collect her first point in a Saint Rose uniform. Vasquez then added an insurance tally in the final two minutes for her third goal of the year.
Between the posts, senior keeper
Jessica Gerski came up with a save to surpass former All-American Lauren Steinberg ('07) with her school record 46th career victory. Gerski now owns a staggering .896 (46-4-3) career winning percentage. At the other end, sophomore Kayla Werthmann came up with three saves for Le Moyne (3-2/1-1 NE-10).
Looking ahead, both teams have 2:00 pm conference road dates this Saturday. The Golden Knights will take on Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, while the Dolphins will face Stonehill in Easton, MA.
