Box Score
ALBANY – Four different student-athletes accounted for all four goals as The College of Saint Rose extended its season-long shutout streak to three matches behind a 4-0 non-conference victory against Roberts Wesleyan tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
The Golden Knights (3-0), who are ranked #3 in the first NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll that was released earlier today, outshot the Redhawks (2-1) 21-7, including a 10-2 differential in on-target threats, and manufactured five corners while yielding three.
Senior midfielders Laura Taylor and Sydney Bond, and freshman forwards Sammy Blizzard and Emily Meeks all found the back of the net for Saint Rose. Bond also added an assist.
Between the posts, senior Jessica Gerski and freshman Ashley Homer each made one save while junior Marissa Sell came up with six saves for Roberts Wesleyan.
The Golden Knights struck in the opening 10 minutes as they had in their previous two outings. Taylor scored the game-winner with only 5:19 elapsed when she collected a through pass from Bond off the right flank and finished inside the far post. Six minutes later, Bond converted a penalty kick after Meeks was hauled down from behind in the area.
Blizzard then drove a shot from 20-yards out on the right flank that Sell could not get a handle on to make it 3-0 at the break. Meeks closed out the scoring with 61:11 gone by when she made a long run with the ball up the right sideline and let go a shot that sailed into the low left corner.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights make their first road trip of the year to “Upstate Challenge” rival Le Moyne next Wednesday, September 18 for a 4:00 pm Northeast-10 Conference contest. Meanwhile, the Redhawks return home this Thursday to face Davis & Elkins at 7:00 pm.
