Box Score

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The College of Saint Rose scored twice within a 46 second span and held host Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University to only one goal in the final 9:30 to upend the Setters 10-9 earlier today.

The game featured six ties and Pace manufactured a 42-35 shot advantage, but junior goalie Nick Longo came up with 16 saves, six in the third quarter, to spearhead the Golden Knights defense.

Meanwhile, Saint Rose dictated the game-flow throughout the final 15 minutes. Sophomore attack Kevin Fleming put the Golden Knights up 9-8 when he scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Kris Miller with 6:38 to go. Freshman midfielder Justin Golec then recorded the game-winner behind his second strike of the quarter with 5:52 remaining. Sophomore midfielder Ryan McFee set up Golec.

The Setters (5-5/2-5 NE-10) finally got back to within a goal with 57 seconds left after junior attack William Scioscia found the back of the net with his fourth strike of the afternoon. However, sophomore midfielder John Zullo won the ensuing faceoff and although the Golden Knights subsequently coughed up the ball, the Setters final two shots were off the mark.

Saint Rose previously built a two goal lead on a pair of occasions throughout the opening half and then led 7-6 midway through the third and went up 8-7 on a Golec man-up goal with 10:30 remaining in the fourth. After Pace tied the game for the sixth time, Fleming and Golec struck in succession for what proved to be the difference.

Fleming tallied a season-high four goals to go along with an assist, while sophomore midfielder Evan Helming had a goal and three assists to lead the Saint Rose (3-8/3-4 NE-10) offense. Junior attack Brett McAuliffe wound up with two goals and a pair of helpers while Golec's two strikes and another by Zullo constituted the remaining three scores.

At the other end, Pace was helped out by a pair of goals and two assists each from senior attack Matt Mirabito and junior attack Matt Gebhardt.

The Golden Knights return home Saturday for a 5:00 pm conference game versus Southern New Hampshire. Meanwhile, the Setters have a 1:00 pm league date Saturday at #4 Merrimack in North Andover, MA.
