SAINT ROSE SUFFERS DOUBLE OVERTIME DEFEAT AT BENTLEY

WALTHAM, MA – Host Bentley scored the game-winner midway through the second overtime period to upend The College of Saint Rose 8-7 in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter this evening. The game was close throughout as it stood deadlocked 5-5 at halftime, 6-6 after three quarters and 7-7 at the conclusion of regulation.

However, freshman midfielder Matt Brigham finished a pass from sophomore attack Matt Dente with 2:23 remaining in the second extra session that allowed the Falcons to snap a four-game skid.

Junior attack Brett McAuliffe scored two goals in each half to assume the league lead with 22 strikes on the season for Saint Rose. Sophomore midfielder Evan Helming finished with a pair of goals and two assists while fellow sophomore midfielder John Zullo also added a strike. Meanwhile, junior goalie Nick Longo came up with 16 saves, one shy of his season-high.

As for Bentley (3-5/2-4 NE-10); Brigham wound up with three goals while senior attack Tim Matheson and sophomore midfielder Doug Mahony scored two apiece.

Saint Rose rebounded from an early 3-0 deficit as Helming scored twice within a three-minute stretch that spanned the first and second quarters. Zullo then finished unassisted before McAuliffe converted a feed from freshman midfielder Justin Golec in a man-up situation to make it 4-3 Golden Knights. Bentley countered with two goals 31 seconds apart before McAuliffe scored with 4:25 left until intermission to make it a 5-5 game at halftime.

Saint Rose then went up a goal in the early going of both the third and fourth quarters, but Bentley answered each time to set the overtime stage.

Looking ahead, both teams have conference road dates this Tuesday. The Golden Knights travel to Pleasantville, NY to visit Pace University at 4:00 pm while the Falcons head to Merrimack for a 7:00 pm start in North Andover, MA.
