Box Score
MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose got out to a 4-1, first quarter lead only to be held scoreless the rest of the way in a 9-4
Northeast-10 Conference setback at Saint Anselm this afternoon. The Golden Knights, who do not have an active senior on their roster, were thus denied a conference championship berth by a mere one game following their inaugural year of league competition.
Overall, the Hawks (5-9/5-6 NE-10) generated a 45-30 shot advantage and converted three of their four man-up opportunities throughout the game.
Sophomore midfielder
John Zullo had a goal and an assist while sophomore attacks
Kevin Fleming and
Colin Sorber, and freshman midfielder
Jon Munroe scored once each for the Golden Knights (4-11/4-7 NE-10).
Junior goalie
Nick Longo came up with 12 saves throughout 55:27 between the pipes, while sophomore midfielder
Evan Helming picked up an assist.
Saint Rose put itself in the driver's seat in the early going by scoring three unanswered goals barely four minutes apart midway through the opening period to go up 4-1. However, Saint Anselm countered with 50 seconds elapsed in the second quarter and then added two more within 1:18 of each other to tie it 4-4.
An even-handed tally by junior midfielder Jake Mallinson made it 5-4 Hawks, who never trailed again. They then scored three times in the third and added a perfunctory strike in the fourth to account for the final margin.
Mallinson finished with two goals and a pair of assists, while junior attack Andrew Messner and freshman attack Ben Warren scored twice each for Saint Anselm, which also got 16 saves from senior goalie Jonathon O'Reilly.
