Box Score
ALBANY – Southern New Hampshire outscored The College Saint Rose 5-2 throughout the second half on the way to a 9-5
Northeast-10 Conference victory tonight at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Penmen (5-7/5-3 NE-10) generated a 46-30 shot advantage and won 10 of 16 faceoffs throughout the evening.
Sophomore midfielder
Kris Miller scored two goals to lead the Golden Knights (3-9/3-5 NE-10) offense while junior attack
Brett McAuliffe, and sophomore midfielders
Evan Helming and
John Zullo added one each.
Additionally, sophomore attack
Kevin Fleming set up two of the strikes and junior goalie
Nick Longo stopped 15 shots-on-goal.
Meanwhile, sophomore attack Taylor Warden scored three times for Southern New Hampshire, which has now won three of its last four.
It took a while, but Southern New Hampshire broke through when senior long stickman Ryan Woodford finished an unassisted strike with 4:50 left in the third quarter to expand the Penmen 4-3 halftime lead to 5-3. Warden then found the back of the net off of a Warden feed as the third quarter buzzer sounded for what proved to be the game winner.
The Golden Knights subsequently got one back 31 seconds into the fourth quarter when McAuliffe flung home a nifty feed from Fleming. However, Murray scored unassisted and Warden struck again two minutes later midway through the quarter to put Southern New Hampshire in the driver's seat with an 8-4 cushion.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights travel to Syracuse Tuesday to face
“Upstate Challenge” and league rival Le Moyne at 4:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Penmen are on the road Wednesday with a 7:00 pm NE-10 date at Bentley in Waltham, MA.
