RINDGE, NH – The College of Saint Rose struck for six goals in the fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind 11-7 victory at Franklin Pierce this afternoon. The game marked the inaugural
Northeast-10 Conference contest for the Golden Knights (1-4/1-0 NE-10).
Junior attack
Brett McAuliffe registered three of his four strikes and an assisted on another during the final 15 minutes when Saint Rose outscored the Ravens (1-1/0-1 NE-10) 6-1 to rally from a 6-5 deficit. Also, sophomore midfielder
Evan Helming picked up three of his four assists and one of his two goals during the decisive fourth.
Sophomore attack
Colin Sorber scored his first two goals of the year to go along with an assist, while freshman midfielder
Justin Golec and sophomore midfielder
Kris Miller each had a goal and assist. Sophomore attack
Kevin Fleming also had a goal while junior goalie
Nick Longo made eight of his 11 saves after halftime for the Golden Knights.
Sophomore attack Kevin Dargin scored three times and sophomore midfielder Erik Kelly scored twice to lead the Ravens.
Saint Rose owned a 5-2 lead at intermission after Sorber and McAuliffe scored four minutes apart midway through the second quarter, and Miller added another during a man-up situation with 50 seconds left. However, the Ravens scored four unanswered tallies in the third quarter to take their first lead of the afternoon.
The Golden Knights then countered with four straight goals themselves. Fleming finished a McAuliffe feed three minutes into the fourth, Helming set up Sorber for the second time, McAuliffe scored unassisted with what amounted to the game-winner and then Sorber returned the favor to Helming to make it 9-6 Saint Rose with 4:57 left.
Freshman midfielder Gary Pace then scored his first goal of the year 20 seconds later to get Franklin Pierce back to within a pair, but McAuliffe added his team-leading 12th and 13th strikes of the season 15 seconds apart in the final 2:05 to close it out for the Golden Knights.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is off until next Saturday when the Golden Knights are scheduled to visit 11th ranked and NE-10 rival Saint Michael's. Start time is set for 3:00 pm in Colchester, VT. Meanwhile, the Ravens are back in action Wednesday with a 5:00 pm non-league contest at Molloy College on Long Island.
