GOLDEN KNIGHTS RALLY BEFORE SUFFERING 9-8 OVERTIME SETBACK AT CHESTNUT HILL

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA – The College of Saint Rose came back from a 4-1 halftime deficit and tied the game three times after that point only to suffer a 9-8 overtime setback at Chestnut Hill College this evening. The Golden Knights (0-4) manufactured a 35-32 shot advantage although the Griffins (3-2) won 16 of 20 faceoffs.

Junior attach Michael Melnychenko tallied the game-winner on an assist from junior midfielder Sean Johnson just six seconds into the extra session.

Sophomore midfielder Evan Helming and sophomore attack Kevin Fleming each had two goals and a pair of assists, sophomore midfielder Kris Miller scored twice and junior attack Brett McAuliffe recorded his team-leading ninth strike of the season and set up two others for Saint Rose. Junior goalie Nick Longo came up with nine of his 16 saves following intermission.

Melnychenko had four goals and an assist while freshman attack Tanner Fisher wound up with two goals and a helper to lead Chestnut Hill in its 2013 home opener.

The Griffins scored the game's first four goals before Fleming connected just five seconds before the break. Miller and Munroe then cut the Saint Rose deficit to one, 4-3, before Helming scored twice within a two minute span to tie the game 5-5 with 1:33 left in the third quarter.

Chestnut Hill answered with two strikes during a four-minute stretch that bridged the third and fourth periods. McAuliffe and Miller then scored 33 seconds apart to deadlock it a second time, 7-7, with 8:21 left in regulation. The Griffins took the lead again, but Bergeron countered with less than two minutes to play to force overtime.

Freshman midfielder Jon Munroe and Fleming accounted for the final two Saint Rose strikes, while sophomore defenseman Trey Jackson added an assist.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will play their inaugural Northeast-10 Conference game this Saturday at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH. Game time is 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Griffins have 12:00 pm date Sunday at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia.
