The Plot: The College of Saint Rose commences the 2013 campaign by hosting LIU Post this afternoon at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Last Meeting (N/A): This is the first ever meeting between the Golden Knights and the Pioneers. As instituions, Saint Rose and LIU Post, formerly known as C.W. Post, were both member of the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference before Saint Rose joined the Northeast-10 Conference in 2000. LIU Post became a member of the East Coast Conference that derived from the NYCAC.
Scouting Saint Rose (0-0): Todays marks the 2013 season-opener for the Golden Knights as head coach Tim Robbins returns for his second season at the helm. In the first season of competition last year, Saint Rose finished 7-6 that included an 11-10 victory against then #8 ranked Chestnut Hill (3/28/12). The Golden Knights return their top four scorers including junior attack Brett McAluiffe and sophomore attack Kevin Fleming. McAuliffe led the team with 33 goals as well as six assists to finish with a total of 39 points. Fleming paced the team with 40 points behind 27 goals and 13 assists. Junior goalkeeper Nick Longo started all 13 games and posted a 52.9 save percentage.
Scouting #10 LIU Post (2-0): The Pioneers have began the season 2-0 after a 10-6 win at Queens University of Charlotte last Sunday and Monday's 14-5 victory at Coker College. Freshman attack Matty Beccaris leads the team with eight points behind four goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder Connor Drost has scored six goals for all six of his points. Senior keeper Tim Bradley is 2-0 between the pipes with a 3.43 goals-against-average and a 57.1 save percentage. LIU Post won back-to-back national championships in 2009 adn 2010 and also wore the crown in 1996. The Pioneers are currently ranked #10 in the USILA Coaches' Poll.
Up Next: The Golden Knights begin a stretch of five away games starting this Wednesday at Mercy. First faceoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Meanwhile, the Pioneers return to action Saturday, March 2 for a 12:00 pm meeting at Adelphi in Garden City, NY.
