GARDEN CITY, NY-The College of Saint Rose shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor for the fourth time this year and put four players in double-figures scoring to upend Bloomfield 94-82 during the first day of action at the Adelphi Holiday Tournament this afternoon.
Sophomore forward
Tyler Sayre scored a game-high 25 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and four steals for the Golden Knights (7-4). Freshman guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd recorded a season-high 17 points and six rebounds, while senior guard
Kareem Thomas added 14 points.
Furthermore, senior center
Dominykas Milka clocked in his ninth "double-double" of the year behind 13 points and 11 boards, while senior guard
James Wilson passed around five assists without a miscue.
The Golden Knights went on a 17-6 jaunt during the latter stages of the first half to assume control. They pretty much led by double-digits the rest of way as the Deacons (4-6) cut their deficit to less than 10 on only three brief occasions in the second stanza.
Sayre hit the second of two free throws and Boyd finished inside to ignite the run, before freshman guard
Isaiah Cosbert drained a 3-pointer off a Wilson feed to cap it and put Saint Rose up 45-31 with 3:01 left until intermission.
Sophomore forward Claude Blue led five Bloomfield (4-6) double-figure scorers with 19 points.
Looking ahead, the tournament will conclude tomorrow. The Golden Knights will face Philadelphia University in a season-opening rematch at 1:30 pm. Meanwhile, Bloomfield will meet host Adelphi at 3:30 pm.
