TURGUT'S 24 POINTS NOT ENOUGH AT HOME AGAINST ADELPHI

Albany, NY- The College of Saint Rose men's basketball lost 86-81 in a hard fought Northeast-10 battle against the Adelphi Panthers Wednesday evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Saint Rose senior forward Ata Turgut matched Adelphi's Elijah Lewis with a game-high 24 points on the night. Turgut shot 10-of-14 from the field and 3-for-5 for behind the arc, and scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half.

The Golden Knights would take a four-point lead on an Adam Myers three pointer with seven minutes left to play in the first half, however a late run would allow Adelphi to go into halftime ahead 44-39. Both team shot over 50 percent from three-point range in the opening half.

Freshman guard Dante Weise converted a three-point play to cap an 8-0 second half Golden Knights that would give them a 59-56 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. Weise scored 13 points and dished out a game-high seven assists.

Following the Weise and-one, both teams would trade baskets over the next five minutes before the Adelphi's Lewis would score nine unanswered points to extend what was a one-point deficit for Adelphi to an eight-point margin that the Panthers would not be relinquished.

Junior guard Tristian Jefferies scored 13 points on the evening for Saint Rose, while freshman guard Trey Boyd III provided 11 points off the bench. Junior forward Nuha Sagnia led the Golden Knights with nine rebounds.

Saint Rose is back in action at 3:30 pm on Saturday for Senior Day at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium, as the Golden Knights are set to play what will be the final Saint Rose men's basketball home game.
