WORCESTER, Mass.- The College of Saint Rose was defeated 100-84 in this evening's Northeast-10 Conference tournament first round matchup at Assumption, penning a conclusion to the final chapter for a Golden Knights men's program that featured 20 NE10 postseason appearances and 14 NCAA tournament berths.
A sluggish start by both sides allowed Saint Rose to edge ahead by four with 11 minutes to go in the first half tonight. From that point, Assumption would knock down 12 of its final 21 shots in the frame to take an eight-point lead into intermission.
The Golden Knights were able to chisel the Greyhound advantage down to three at several moments, but an 18-7 sprint by Assumption midway through the second half closed the door on any Saint Rose comeback efforts. The Greyhounds converted 17 of their 27 field goal attempts (63 percent) across the final 20 minutes.
Freshman guard
Trey Boyd III shot 7-of-10 from the floor to pace the Golden Knights with 20 points. Boyd III was also the team-leader with five rebounds and three steals.Â
Freshman guard
Christian Pierre-Louis finished with 17 points, while the front court pair of
Ata Turgut and
Nuha Sagnia provided 12 and 11 points, respectively. Freshman guard
Dante Weise had seven points and a game-high nine assists as well.
Kani Glover and Daouda Dembele each had double-doubles for the Greyhounds. Glover logged a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Dembele had 20 points and 12 boards. The duo combined to shoot 14-of-22 from the field.
Saint Rose finishes the year with an 11-18 overall record. Assumption advances to an NE10 quarterfinal date against top-seeded Saint Michael's.
