SAINT ROSE FACES AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL IN NCAA TOURNAMENT THIRD-ROUND ACTION

The Golden Knights host American International in NCAA Tournament third-round action Friday at 12:00 pm.

The Plot: The College of Saint Rose and American International come into today aiming to punch a ticket to a National Quarterfinal that will take place here this Sunday, November 24 at 1:00 pm. The Golden Knights are aiming to advance that far for the sixth straight time, while AIC is looking for its first trip to that destination. Today's winner will advance to face either California, PA or Slippery Rock, who kickoff here at 2:30 pm today.

Last Meeting | 10/8/13 | Two of the country's top-10 teams played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw as neither Saint Rose nor host American International could come up with a goal in a match that was played before 1,118 fans. The Yellow Jackets manufactured a 20-9 shot advantage although that metric stood at 7-7 after halftime. American International also generated seven more corner kicks, including a 6-0 advantage in the first period. Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Busk directed three shots-on-goal and junior midfielder Emily Benjamin manufactured a pair for Saint Rose. Meanwhile, senior keeper Jessica Gerski made five of her season-high nine saves in the first period to ward off an early American International offensive. At the other end, junior keeper Sam Tabak recorded five saves throughout the evening to keep her clean sheet in place.

The Series | 15-7-1 Saint Rose: Saint Rose owns a 15-7-1 advantage in the series with American International that dates back to 1994…The Golden Knights have gone 14-1-1 throughout the most recent 16 meetings.

Last Sunday's Second Round: The Golden Knights advanced to their ninth NCAA Tournament Regional Championship game with a 2-0 win versus Adelphi right here at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Sophomore midfielder Michaela Phillips scored what held up as the game-winner with 20:48 elapsed and senior midfielder Sydney Bond provided the insurance goal at the 23:11 mark. The Yellow Jackets moved forward with a 2-0 triumph against visiting Bridgeport. American International struck quickly when senior forward Mariah Shade corralled a rebounded shot for a 1-0 lead 1:06 into the game. Junior forward Sonia Basma eventually gave AIC a two-goal cushion, breaking away and sneaking it by Bridgeport keeper Jackie Fonesca for her Northeast-10 Conference leading 18th of the year.

Scouting #4 Saint Rose (20-0-2): Saint Rose is 21-9-2 all-time in NCAA Tournament contests…The Golden Knights have made five consecutive national semifinal appearances...This is the 11th time in 12 years that Saint Rose will be competing in the field…The Golden Knights are second nationally in scoring defense, 24th in scoring offense, own a collective 0.13 goals-against-average, and are averaging 2.41 goals per-game, which are the top and second best marks in the NE-10 respectively…Nineteen different student-athletes have figured in the scoring column to forge a balanced attack…Bond stands third among the league's leading point producers behind a team-high 30 points on 12 goals and six assists…She stands fifth among active NCAA II players with 47 goals and 118 career points…Sophomore midfielder/forward Kristin Carr has 13 points via six goals and a helper while Busk has 12 points on five goals and two assists…Freshman forward Sammy Blizzard and senior midfielder Laura Taylor have 11 points each, while junior midfielder Meeghan Arno has 10 points thanks to three strikes and four assists…Two of her goals were game-winners throughout the NE-10 Championship…Phillips and Benjamin are key links to the squad's transition efforts…Between the posts, Gerski is third in the country with a 0.15 GAA and is fifth behind a .925 save percentage…She helps direct a defensive unit that primarily consists of juniors Jourdan Thompson and La'Quilla Upton, along with sophomore Nicole Shively…They have surrendered a mere 43 corners this autumn…Conversely, Saint Rose has manufactured 176 corners.

Scouting #13 American International (16-2-2): The Yellow Jackets are 15th in the country with an NE-10 best 2.7 goals per-game and are 15th nationally with a team 0.293 GAA…Seven of Basma's strikes have been game-winners…She also leads the NE-10 with 10 assists for 46 points, which accounts for 30.0 percent of the squad's point production…Tabek is 14-2-2 with a 0.31 GAA and a an 0.878 save percentage…She has played all but 120 of the team's 1,841 team's minutes…The Yellow Jackets are making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and third in the last four years.
