Box Score

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose advanced to its ninth NCAA Tournament Regional Championship game with today's 2-0 second-round win versus Adelphi at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (20-0-2), ranked #4 in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Weekly Poll, struck twice within less than a three minute span midway through the first half en route to their school record 19th shutout of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Michaela Phillips scored what held up as the game-winner with 20:48 elapsed and senior midfielder Sydney Bond provided the insurance goal at the 23:11 mark.

Between the posts, senior Jessica Gerski was called upon to make one save for Saint Rose, while fellow junior Sam Whitney turned aside two-shots on-target at the other end for the Panthers (14-3-4).

The Golden Knights manufactured a 10-7 shot advantage, although the #25 Panthers pushed forward and engineered a 5-2 differential throughout the second half. The corner kick opportunities were fairly even as well, 5-4 in favor of Saint Rose.

The Golden Knights dictated the game flow in the early going that yielded a pair of corners, before a third one paid off. Phillips got in the air for a feed from the right flag that junior midfielder Meeghan Arno delivered. Phillips perfectly timed her jump that allowed her subsequent header to sail just under the crossbar.

Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Busk then slipped a pass from the right flank that Bond redirected home for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will now host #13 and Northeast-10 Conference rival American International (16-2-2) in a regional championship (round of 16) encounter next Friday, November 22. The Yellow Jackets advanced with today's 2-0 victory against visiting Bridgeport in Springfield. The Golden Knights will also host the Atlantic Regional championship game on Friday, with each winner meeting in a national quarterfinal next Sunday, November 24, in Albany. Saint Rose and American International played to a 0-0 draw in their regular-season meeting in Springfield earlier this fall.
