Last Meeting (9/24/13): Saint Rose won 1-0 at Adelphi. Sophomore midfielder
Jennifer Busk scored the lone goal for the second consecutive game to lift the Golden Knights. Freshman midfielder
Emily Meeks directed a ball to Busk who turned and found the back of the net from about 12-yards out. Senior keeper
Jessica Gerski made three saves for Saint Rose while junior Sam Whitney made four for Adelphi. Overall, the Golden Knights manufactured a 17-8 shot advantage and a 10-2 differential in corner kicks.
Â
Scouting #4 Saint Rose (18-0-2):Â Today will be the sixth time in the past seven years that the top-seed Golden Knights have played in the NE-10 Championship Final. Prior to last season, Saint Rose had won five straight league championships. The Golden Knights have advanced this year with two home 1-0 victories; first
versus Franklin Pierce in Tuesday's quarterfinal and then in
Friday's semifinal against New Haven. Junior
Meeghan Arno is responsible for both game-winners while junior midfielder
Emily Benjamin and senior midfielder
Sydney Bond have been credited with assists. Senior goalkeeper
Jessica Gerski has anchored a defense that, with Friday's shutout, has produced 17 clean sheets this autumn, one shy of the school record set in 2009. This past Thursday, 10 Golden Knights earned recognition on the NE-10 All-Conference list. Bond and junior back
Jourdan Thompson were named first-team selections.
Scouting Adelphi (13-1-4): The third-seed Panthers qualified for the championship final with Friday's 2-1 overtime victory at American International. Adelphi, down 1-0, scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute and then delivered the game-winner less than two minutes into the first extra session. Freshman midfielder Victoria Antonio scored the first strike and also assisted on the overtime goal. Sophomore midfielder Bianca Lastra found the back of the net for the winning marker. The Panthers previously defeated visiting Saint Anselm 2-1 on Tuesday in a quarterfinal match. Sophomore forward Olivia Czavar tallied both strikes. Whitney was named the NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year on Thursday while head coach Chris Armas was honored as the league's Coach of the Year. Five other Panthers also earned recognition on the All-Conference list.
