SPRINGFIELD, MA-Two of the country's top-10 teams played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw tonight as neither The College of Saint Rose nor host American International could come up with a goal in a key
Northeast-10 Conference match that was played before 1,118 fans.
The third-ranked Golden Knights (9-0-1/6-0-1 NE-10) did manage to remain one of only a mere two teams, men or women at either the NCAA I, II, or III levels, to not allow a goal this year. The other, NCAA II Grand Valley State's (MI) women's team, is in action tomorrow.
As for this evening, the Yellow Jackets (9-0-1/7-0-1 NE), ranked sixth in the country this week, manufactured a 20-9 shot advantage although that metric stood at 7-7 after halftime. American International also generated seven more corner kicks, including a 6-0 advantage in the first period.
Sophomore midfielder
Jennifer Busk directed three shots-on-goal and junior midfielder
Emily Benjamin manufactured a pair for Saint Rose (9-0-1/6-0-1 NE-10). Meanwhile, senior keeper
Jessica Gerski made five of her season-high nine saves in the first period to ward off an early American International offensive.
At the other end, junior keeper Sam Tabak recorded five saves throughout the evening to keep her clean sheet in place.
Looking ahead, both squads have home conference matches Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Saint Anselm at 1:00 pm, while the Yellow Jackets will welcome Merrimack at 5:00 pm.
