POSTGAME INTERVIEW

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose came back from an early 1-0 deficit with two first half goals and in the process recorded its eighth consecutive 15-win campaign with tonight's 2-1 victory versus Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Junior midfielder Meeghan Arno scored the game-winner with her first strike of the season and also set up junior back Jourdan Thompson with the game-tying goal. It was Thompson's first marker this autumn as well.

Senior keeper Jessica Gerski recorded three saves for the Golden Knights (15-0-2/11-0-2 NE-10), who are ranked #5 in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Weekly Poll. At the other end, junior Natasha Purchla also turned aside three shots-on-target for the Chargers (9-4-3/7-4-2 NE-10) who arrived in New York's Capital Region having won four of their previous five matches.

Saint Rose engineered a 12-9 shot advantage and a 10-2 corner kick differential, but had to play from behind for the second consecutive game after senior forward Monica Yanez put the Chargers up with 14:07 elapsed via her team-leading 12th goal of the year.

Yanez collected a short feed near the top of the area from sophomore forward Marisa Garcia, spun to create space, and then slipped her shot inside the low left post.

However, Thompson leveled it a mere four minutes later when she headed home a corner that Arno delivered from the right flag. Senior midfielder Sydney Bond then set up Arno with a back pass that the former subsequently rifled topside into the far left corner for what proved to be the game-winner with 38:25 gone by. In the process, Bond ran her point streak to five contests.

Looking ahead, both teams will close out their regular-season slates with road league matches Saturday. Saint Rose travels to Waltham, MA to take on Bentley at 11:30 am while New Haven heads to Manchester to face Southern New Hampshire at 7:00 pm.
