NORTH ANDOVER, MA–The College of Saint Rose stretched its season-long unbeaten streak to 14 matches behind a 3-0
Northeast-10 Conference victory at Merrimack this afternoon.
The Golden Knights (13-0-1/9-0-1 NE-10), ranked #4 in this week's
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll, continued their stellar defensive campaign by picking up their 13th clean sheet on the strength of an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore midfielder
Kristin Carr and freshman forward
Sammy Blizzard each picked up their fifth markers of the year. Blizzard also set up senior midfielder
Sydney Bond, who found the back of the net for her team-leading ninth strike.
Senior keeper
Jessica Gerski was called upon to make one save for Saint Rose. Meanwhile, senior Nicole Curtis stopped six shots, including five in the opening frame, for the Warriors (7-4-2/5-3-2 NE-10).
Carr provided all the firepower the Golden Knights would need when she dribbled past two defenders and found the bottom left corner of the net with 16:39 elapsed for what stood up as the game-winner.
Saint Rose continued to apply pressure over the next 45-plus minutes and finally broke through in the 63rd. Blizzard found Bond in the middle of the penalty area and Bond deposited her strike inside the right post. Blizzard later closed out the scoring with less than four minutes remaining when her shot sailed over the outstretched arms of Curtis.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a 7:00 pm league game at Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday in New Haven. Meanwhile, Merrimack will host Saint Michael's on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
