Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose struck early and held a dangerous Adelphi team at bay en route to a key
Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (5-0-1/3-0-1 NE-10), who are ranked third in this week's
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll, generated a 17-5 shot advantage and shutout a Panthers (4-2-1/1-2-1 NE-10) squad that had outscored its six previous opponents 17-2 entering this afternoon.
Junior midfielder
Sydney Bond scored what stood up as the game-winner with a mere 8:27 elapsed and freshman forward
Kristin Carr provided an insurance marker less than three minutes into the second half.
Junior keeper
Jessica Gerski made two saves in each period to register her second shutout of the season with the help of senior
Molly Harpster, sophomore
Jourdan Thompson, and freshman
Nicole Shively in the back.
Another freshman in midfielder
Gianna Smith helped set up Bond when she collected the ball on the left side of the area and chipped a pass that Bond promptly delivered into the back of the net. In the second half, junior forward
Carmelina Puopolo sent in a free kick from the right side that deflected off of several players before Carr retrieved it and slipped it home from 15-yards out.
As for the Panthers (4-2-1/1-2-1 NE-10), sophomore keeper Sam Whitney came up with eight saves, including five in the first half, to keep Adelphi within striking distance.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose has another key conference date Saturday when the Golden Knights travel to Rindge, NH to meet Franklin Pierce. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Panthers are also on the road Saturday with a 1:00 pm date at Saint Michael's in Colchester, VT.
