Box Score OLD WESTBURY, NY – The College of Saint Rose scored five times in each half en route to a 10-0 season-opening victory at NYIT this afternoon.
The defending national champion Golden Knights, who are also the nation's top-ranked team in the preseason, scored four times in the opening 22 minutes and exploded for three strikes within an eight-minute span in the early going of the second half that transformed a 5-0 lead into an 8-0 advantage. Saint Rose (1-0) outshot the host Bears (0-1) by a 32-3 margin and manufactured five corner kicks, while yielding just one.
Junior forward
Carmelina Puopolo tied single-game school records for points and assists with 10 points behind three goals and four helpers. The latter record had stood since 1995 when Danielle Murphy recorded four assists in a contest.

KristIn Carr got her collegiate career off to a fantastic start by finding the back of the net three times. She also set up one of Puopolo's goals. Meanwhile, junior midfielder
Sydney Bond scored twice less than two minutes apart midway through the second period. Sophomore forward
Brittany Barry closed out the scoring in the 81st minute, while freshman midfielder
Michaela Phillips made it a 1-0 affair with a mere 6:07 elapsed when she went up the middle and slipped a shot home into the lower-right corner.

Lauren Minkoff each played a half between the posts and were called upon to make one save collectively. Freshman keeper Brianna Bollettieri turned aside nine shots on-target for NYIT.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to play its 2012 home opener on Tuesday, September 4 when Nyack arrives in the Capital Region. Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the Bears will host New Haven on Monday, September 3 at noon.
