ERIE, PA – The College of Saint Rose erased a 5-1 deficit with three unanswered strikes to start the second period, but host and defending national champion Mercyhurst College scored 14 of the final 15 goals in the contest to come away with a 19-6 victory over the Golden Knights today at Tullio Field.

The Lakers (10-0) remained unbeaten so far this year, while Saint Rose (5-6) has dropped two in a row. Five of the squad's six setbacks have come at the hands of opponents ranked among the top-10 in the country (Division II).

Freshman attackman Kevin Fleming scored two goals to lead the Golden Knights. Senior midfielder Joe Pompo finished with a goal and an assist as did freshmen midfielders Kris Miller and Louie Buccella.

Sophomore goalie Nick Longo finished two shy of his season-high with 15 saves for Saint Rose. At the other end, sophomore goalie Michael Grace turned aside three shots in 45 minutes of action for Mercyhurst, which retained the top spot in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) NCAA Division II Poll.

The Lakers raced out to a 5-1 advantage, but Miller finished off a feed from Buccella 37 seconds into the second frame to cut into the Saint Rose deficit. Buccella added an unassisted tally and Pompo set up Fleming at the 7:40 mark to make it a 5-4 ballgame.

The Lakers quickly regained their composure when senior attackman Kyle Kallay found the back of the net just more than two minutes later. Kallay's strike wound up igniting an impressive scoring outburst that featured eight unanswered goals.

Mercyhurst held a 47-19 margin in shots and forced the Golden Knights into 26 turnovers. The Lakers also converted 24 of 26 clears and won the groundball war 32-25.

Saint Rose has 10 days to prepare for its next outing. The Golden Knights are scheduled to welcome Southern New Hampshire University to Albany for a 4:00 pm start on Tuesday, April 24. Meanwhile, Mercyhurst heads to New York Institute of Technology one week from today. Game time is set for 1:00 pm from Old Westbury.
