SAINT ROSE ROARS BACK FROM SIX GOAL DEFICIT TO CHALK UP FIRST WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY

RINDGE, NH – The College of Saint Rose chalked up the first win in program history by scoring nine of the game's final 11 goals while rallying from a 7-1, second quarter deficit en route to a 10-9 triumph at Franklin Pierce this afternoon.

Freshman attackman Kevin Fleming afforded the contest its first tie via an unassisted tally with a mere 24 seconds left in the third quarter. Sophomore attackman Brett McAuliffe then finished a pass from freshman midfielder Kris Miller with 11:51 remaining in the fourth quarter for what stood up as the game-winner.

Fleming, McAuliffe, Miller, and senior midfielder Joe Pompo had two goals apiece; while junior attackman Rich Bamberger and freshman midfielder John Zullo had one each to account for a balanced Golden Knights (1-2) attack. Fleming also had a pair of assists; while McAuliffe, Miller, Pompo, and Zullo had one each.

In goal, sophomore Nick Longo recorded 15 saves, including nine throughout the second half when the host Ravens (1-1) managed just two scores.

Sophomore midfielder Eddie Noonan and junior attackman Brendan Cahill had two goals and one assist apiece, while freshman goalie Don Denman came up with 12 saves for Franklin Pierce.

Pompo ignited the Saint Rose comeback behind a man-up strike with 9:13 to go in the second quarter. He then set up McAuliffe seven minutes later to bring Saint Rose to within one, 7-6, at halftime. The Ravens twice boosted their cushion back to a pair of goals throughout the third quarter, but the Golden Knights showed their resiliency and subsequently punched a “one” in the win column.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to return to action next Wednesday, March 14, with a 7:00 pm game at Assumption College in Worcester, MA. The Golden Knights will then host their inaugural contest at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex on Tuesday, March 20 versus Dominican. Game time is set for 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Ravens are scheduled to entertain Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, March 17 at 12:00 pm.
