ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose roared back from a 6-1 deficit with five unanswered strikes, but visiting Merrimack College closed the game with a 9-0 run to upend the Golden Knights 15-6 this evening at Sullivan Field. The Warriors remained unbeaten so far this year, while Saint Rose had its three-game win streak snapped.
Freshman attackman
Kevin Fleming scored two goals and added an assist to lead Saint Rose (3-3). Meanwhile, junior midfielder
Rich Bamberger and freshman midfielder
Kris Miller each had a goal and an assist.
Sophomore goalie
Nick Longo made seven saves for the Golden Knights. His counterpart, freshman Morgan Green, turned aside 12 shots on-target including seven in the second half.
Junior midfielder Corey Lunney and freshman attackman Jamie Shand had four goals apiece to pave the way for the Warriors (4-0), are ranked #4 in the latest
United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Poll.
Additionally, junior midfielder Mike Perdie dished out six helpers and found the back of the net once as well.
Merrimack raced out to a 6-1 advantage, but Fleming registered back-to-back tallies to send Saint Rose into the break trailing 6-3. The Golden Knights scored three more times within the first five minutes of the third period to forge a 6-6 tie. Sophomore attackman

The Warriors quickly regained their composure when Perdie fed junior midfielder DJ Brown less than two minutes later for what proved to be the game-winner and thus ignite an impressive scoring outburst.
Merrimack held a 47-27 margin in shots and forced the Golden Knights into 24 turnovers as opposed to just 12 of its own. The Warriors also converted 21 of 23 clears and won the groundball battle 45-34.
Also, this afternoon marked “Cancer Awareness Day” at the Plumeri Sports complex as the baseball, softball and men's lacrosse teams each did their part for the cause. Members of the lacrosse squad specifically wore lime green shoe laces in support of the
HEADstrong Foundation.
Saint Rose returns to action Wednesday night when the Golden Knights host #8 Chestnut Hill College at 7:00 pm at Sullivan Field. Meanwhile, Merrimack resumes its Northeast-10 Conference slate Tuesday when Franklin Pierce University arrives in North Andover, MA for a 4:00 pm start.
