Box Score

WEST CHESTER, PA – The College of Saint Rose controlled the pace throughout the second half to capture its fifth straight NCAA Tournament East Regional Championship with a 1-0 victory versus Dowling College on the campus of West Chester University this afternoon.

Saint Rose (19-2-2) will now meet the host Golden Rams (15-4-1) in Sunday's National Quarterfinal Game. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 pm. West Chester advanced with a 1-0 victory versus Slippery Rock in the Atlantic Regional Championship match.

Sophomore forward Brittany Barry scored the lone goal of the contest with 61:10 gone by that allowed the 20th ranked Golden Knights (19-2-2) to move on after they manufactured the majority of scoring chances.

Saint Rose engineered a 15-4 shot advantage, including a 9-2 differential in shots-on-target, and also generated an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks to set up a rematch of the 2010 national quarterfinal with West Chester. The Golden Knights moved on to the national semifinals that year by virtue of penalty kicks.

Saint Rose nearly jumped out on top in the early going today. Barry one-touched a cross that Dowling sophomore keeper Melissa Guglielmo was just able to deflect over the crossbar with 18:03 gone by. Dowling senior midfielder Alexis Parrotta then got off a blistering attack at the 24:30 mark, but junior keeper Jessica Gerski made a nifty diving save to her left.

In the second half, junior midfielder Sydney Bond and Barry both got off quality shots in the 68th minute, but Guglielmo was up to the task to keep it a one goal game.

Guglielmo came up with eight saves throughout the afternoon for Dowling (14-4-3), while Gerski made two saves to post her seventh shutout of the year for Saint Rose, which has won 11 of its last 12 heading into Sunday.
