Box Score

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose got the only goal it needed in the early going of the second half to register its sixth shutout within the last seven games behind a 1-0 victory against Bentley this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. In the process, the17th ranked Golden Knights (15-1-2/12-1-2 NE-10) captured at least a share of their seventh consecutive Northeast-10 Conference regular-season championship.

Second seed Saint Rose is tentatively scheduled to host an NE-10 Quarterfinal game on Monday, October 29 against seventh seed Southern Connecticut State. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm.

Junior midfielder Laura Taylor scored the only goal the Golden Knights needed to record their sixth shutout within the last seven games. Taylor one-touched a nifty feed from freshman midfielder Kristin Carr that ricocheted into the far lower corner after the latter had created space out on the right flank.

Meanwhile, junior keeper Jessica Gerski was called upon to make just two saves as Saint Rose lowered its league-leading goals-against-average to 0.46 on the year. At the other end, sophomore Christina Hynds turned aside five shots-on-target for the Falcons (5-9-3/3-9-3 NE-10).

The game started somewhat methodically before the Golden Knights began probing the offensive third midway through the first period. They subsequently controlled the pace throughout the final 65 minutes. Saint Rose outshot Bentley by a 23-5 margin, including an 11-1 differential in the second half, and manufactured 10 corner kicks while not yielding any.

Among their most dangerous opportunities came during the opening five minutes of the second period. Taylor tested Hynds with a volleyball from 20-yards out and junior midfielder Sydney Bond made a great run down the left side to get her head on a cross from freshman midfielder Jennifer Busk. The Golden Knights then spent the majority of the second stanza developing various points of attack throughout its offensive half of the field.

Prior to the game, the student-athletes took a moment to recognize their professors and faculty. Head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil was also presented with a ceremonial ball in honor of her 250th career victory that she picked up last Saturday via a 2-0 triumph at Stonehill College.
