AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL UPENDS TOP-RANKED SAINT ROSE IN DOUBLE OT

Sophomore midfielder Laura Taylor generated one of the Golden Knights six shots-on-goal in the second half of tonight's 2-1 double OT loss to NE-10 rival American International..
Box Score ALBANY – A dominating second half by The College of Saint Rose went for naught as visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival and 25th ranked American International struck for the game's lone goal in the opening minute of the second overtime to upend the Golden Knights 1-0 this evening at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights (8-1-1/6-1-1 NE-10), who have stood atop the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll for most of the year, generated a 9-2 shot advantage, including a 6-0 differential in shots-on-target, and manufactured three corner kicks while yielding only one throughout the 45-minute span. However, the nation's top scoring team could not push one past the goal line for the first time this year.

Conversely, American International (6-2-2/5-1-2 NE-10) took advantage of one of its rare chances. Junior forward Mariah Shade provided the difference by finishing off a pass from junior forward Caroline Boyce. Boyce collected the ball on the right flank and sent it through to the middle of the area where Shade controlled it and slipped it inside the lower right post that set off a wild celebration by the Yellow Jackets.

Sophomore keeper Samantha Tabak recorded five of her six saves during the second half, while junior Jessica Gerski wound up with four saves on the evening for Saint Rose.

Sophomore midfielder Laura Taylor, junior midfielder Sydney Bond, freshman backs Amanda Vasquez and Ojwanna Wilson, and freshman midfielder Michaela Phillips all put dangerous shots-on-goal in the second half for the Golden Knights who lost for the first time in 35 matches since they began playing on this pitch two and one-half years ago.

Regardless, Saint Rose remains atop the NE-10 standings. The Yellow Jackets are two points behind in second place with Southern New Hampshire and Merrimack right on their heels.

Looking ahead, both teams have 4:00 pm road conference matches on tap for Saturday. The Golden Knights head to Manchester, NH to meet Saint Anselm while American International will travel to North Andover, MA for a key encounter with  Merrimack.
