Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose recorded its third straight shutout with a 3-0 win versus
Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack this afternoon at
Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (11-1-2/8-1-2 NE-10), ranked #17 in the most recent
NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll, scored in the opening three minutes and never looked back.
A balanced Saint Rose attack was again on full display. Five different student-athletes figured in the scoring for the nation's fourth most proficient offense. Freshman back
Amanda Vasquez scored what stood up as the game-winner with a mere 2:52 elapsed. Sophomore forward
Brittany Barry made it 2-0 at the 25:21 mark and then junior midfielder
Sydney Bond accounted for the game's final tally with 74:54 expired.
Junior keeper
Jessica Gerski recorded five saves throughout the initial 82 minutes, before freshman keeper
Kallina Haase came off the bench to register a pair of saves in the final eight minutes. In the process, Gerski extended her shutout streak to 253 minutes and lowered her league best goals-against-average to 0.35 on the year.
Junior midfielder
Laura Taylor got things going for the Golden Knights when she delivered a cross from the left side of the area that Vasquez calmly touched in. Barry then collected a loose ball, deked her defender to create space, and whistled a volley from the 18 that gravitated into the right top corner.
In the second half, freshman midfielder
Jennifer Busk found Bond with a cross from the right flank that the latter ran onto and finished for her 33rd career goal, seventh most in Golden Knights annals.
Overall, Saint Rose outshot the Warriors (8-6-0/6-5-0 NE-10) by a 20-15 margin although the visitors generated a 7-6 advantage in shots-on-target. The Golden Knights also manufactured six corner kicks, while yielding only three.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Tuesday for a 5:30 pm NE-10 match versus Southern Connecticut State. The game can be watched live on
