GOLDEN KNIGHTS SCORE THREE RUNS IN BIZARRE EIGHTH TO COMPLETE COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN VERSUS PACE

Freshman third baseman Jevonte Osterhout had a pair of doubles to help lead the Golden Knights past Pace University today.
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose took advantage of a few bizarre plays in the eighth inning that led to three runs and subsequently allowed the Golden Knights to chalk up a 5-2 come-from-behind victory against Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University this afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Freshman third baseman Jevonte Osterhout stroked a leadoff double to left and advanced to third on a sacrifice off the bat of freshman left fielder Brian Maynard. Two batters later with two down, junior catcher Daniel Marshall struck out on a pitch in the dirt that got away from the catcher and allowed him to reach first as Osterhout came across with what held up as the winning run.

After junior shortstop Jesse Burba was hit by a pitch for the third time in the game, senior center fielder Ryan Price slapped a slow roller down the line that bounced on the bag, over the first baseman's head, and ricocheted towards right field and thus allowed Burba to score from second. Sophomore Justin Lewis, who pinch ran for Marshall, also scored on the play as the throw from the outfield sailed wide towards the backstop.

Freshman right-hander Ryan Harper then came out for the ninth and collected his fourth save of the season after he snared a line drive right back at him, and calmly flipped to first to end the game on a double play.

Harper allowed just one hit in the inning. Freshman southpaw Tom Buckley worked a scoreless eighth to grab the win, while senior right-hander Doug Dulin surrendered just one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts throughout 7.0 innings of work in a no-decision.

In the seventh, Saint Rose (9-13/3-7 NE-10) tied the game 2-2 when sophomore designated hitter Caleb Gleason stroked out a two-out, 2-2 pitch up the middle that brought around a pair of runs.

Pace (10-14-1/4-6 NE-10) initially took a 1-0 lead in the second when junior left fielder Tyler Collins belted an RBI single to center. The Setters then made it 2-0 in the sixth after senior designated hitter Brian Kraminitz belted a run scoring double.

Osterhout wound up with a pair of doubles and Price had two base this to lead the Golden Knights offense, while senior right fielder Kenny Wright went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Pace.

Looking ahead, both teams have noon conference doubleheaders on the road Saturday. The Golden Knights will head to North Andover, MA to face Merrimack; while the Setters will go some 30 miles further north to meet Saint Anselm in Manchester, NH.
