ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose opened up a 9-3 lead after three innings to gain a split behind a 12-7 “non-league” victory in the finale of a doubleheader with Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption Thursday night at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Freshman right-hander
Ryan Harper tossed two innings of scoreless ball to tie the single-season school record with his seventh save of the year. In the opener, Assumption (12-23/6-10 NE-10) scored in each of the first four innings on the way to a 14-5 conference win.
Assumption scored three times in the opening frame of game-two, but Saint Rose answered with five runs in the second and four more in the third, before tacking on another pair in the eighth.
Junior first baseman
Daniel Marshall stroked a leadoff double to right and senior designated hitter
Garret Keenan followed with an RBI base hit to center to get the Golden Knights (13-22/6-12 NE-10) on the board. Junior shortstop
Alex Ferenti brought home two more runs with a bases loaded double two batters later and freshman center fielder
Brian Maynard lined a two-run single to left to make it 5-3 Saint Rose.
In the third, the Golden Knights took advantage of three errors, a wild pitch and a bases loaded in-field single to push across four more runs. Freshman right-fielder
Nikko Wahl then stroked a double to the gap in right-center that scored another pair of runs in the eighth.
Maynard, Marshall, sophomore catcher #A.J. Capone
and sophomore left fielder Caleb Gleason
all had two hits apiece to lead the Saint Rose attack. Junior third baseman Travis Smith# went 3-for-5 with two RBI to pace a balanced Assumption offense that featured each starter with at least one hit.
In the opener, sophomore second baseman Shane Keddy belted a two-run single and senior left fielder Wally Derosier followed with a three-run homer over the right field fence to highlight a six-run, third inning for the Greyhounds.
Freshman third baseman
Jevonte Osterhout, senior center fielder
Ryan Price, and senior first baseman
Grant Smith had two hits each, while freshman left-hander
Tom Buckley worked three innings of one-hit ball out of the bullpen for the Golden Knights.
Keddy went 2-for-5 with five RBI and Derosier wound up 4-for-6 with three RBI for Assumption.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is set to return home Tuesday for a 3:30 pm game versus conference rival American International. The game is scheduled to be streamed live on
