GARDEN CITY, NY – Freshman outfielder
Brian Maynard drove in an insurance run with a double to the gap in left-center after junior shortstop
Jesse Burba touched home with the winning run on an error to help lead The College of Saint Rose to a 6-4, 12 inning victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi this afternoon.
Seven different players had at least one hit and three relief pitchers allowed only an infield single throughout 5.0 innings of work collectively for the Golden Knights (12-15/6-8 NE-10) who have now won four of their last six.
Sophomore left fielder
Caleb Gleason went 2-for-4 and senior right fielder
Garret Keenan finished 2-for-6 to lead the Saint Rose attack.
Freshman left-hander
Tom Buckley did not allow a hit throughout three innings of work out of the bullpen, before handing the ball over to junior right-hander
Daniel Cavazzini to start the 11th. Cavazzini allowed the winning run to get into scoring position with two down, but picked up a key strikeout to get out of the jam. Freshman right-hander
Ryan Harper then put the Panthers (20-10-1/9-5 NE-10) down in order in the 12th en route to his sixth save of the year, which puts him one shy of the school record held by Chris Mason (1988).
Saint Rose jumped out to a 4-1 lead with a run in both the second and fourth innings, and two more in the fifth.
Freshman third baseman
Jevonte Osterhout scored the game's first run when he doubled to right, advanced to third on a wild pitch and touched home after senior first baseman
Grant Smith got caught in a rundown between first and second base. Osterhout scored again in the fourth, this time via a Smith sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Keenan belted a one out base hit and eventually came across on an error before junior designated hitter
Michael Carbone knocked home Gleason with a single.
Adelphi got one back in its half of the fifth and then tied it with two runs in the sixth when junior left fielder Justin Farnum stroked a leadoff home run and graduate student Omar Velazquez added an RBI base hit.
Velazquez finished 3-for-5 and freshman designated hitter Chad Houghton wound up 2-for-4 to pace the Adelphi offense.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to return home tomorrow for a non-league doubleheader versus Dominican. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, Adelphi has a noon conference twin-bill against visiting Saint Anselm on Saturday.
