Box Score

NEW HAVEN, CT – The College of Saint Rose scored in the opening 10 minutes of each half to upend host Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State 2-1 this evening at Jess Dow Field. In the process, the 16th ranked Golden Knights (15-1-1/12-1-1 NE-10) ran their win streak to three matches and posted their sixth consecutive 15-win campaign.

Senior midfielder Christina Cuffari struck with 3:55 elapsed with her fifth marker of the year and then fellow senior midfielder Brittany Godin rifled a shot off a feed from sophomore forward Carmelina Puopolo that ricocheted off the crossbar before falling into the net with what proved to be the game-winner with 52:18 gone by.

The Golden Knights generated a 17-7 shot advantage, including an 11-6 differential with on-target threats, and manufactured six corner kicks while yielding only one. Regardless, the fourth place Owls (10-4-2/8-4-2 NE-10) made it interesting by getting the equalizer at the 30:10 mark.

Junior back Brooke Madura set up sophomore forward Suzanne Pires with a ball from 30-yards out that Pires flipped over Saint Rose sophomore keeper Jessica Gerski.

However, Gerski came up with five saves to keep Southern Connecticut State off the scoreboard for most of the night. Senior Jacquelyn Fede on the other hand was forced to come with nine saves in the opposite goal.

Looking ahead, both teams will conclude their regular-season slate this Saturday with conference road matches. The Golden Knights will visit Bentley for a 1:00 pm date in Waltham, MA; while the Owls will head to Saint Anselm for a 2:00 pm start in Manchester, NH. Quarterfinal action of the NE-10 Tournament is set to get underway on Tuesday, November 1 at on-campus sites.
