Box Score ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose kept its unbeaten streak intact with a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory against visiting Stonehill this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The ninth-ranked Golden Knights (10-0-1/7-0-1 NE-10) dictated the pace for the most of the afternoon and generated six shots-on-goal without allowing any. They also manufactured 12 corner kicks and did not allow the Skyhawks (7-3-1/5-2-1 NE-10) a similar opportunity.
Sophomore forward
Carmelina Puopolo registered her 10th marker of the year for what held up as the game-winner. Puopolo gathered a ball near the top of the area, pinned her defender by spinning away from pressure and finished top-side to extend her goal scoring streak to six games.
Sophomore keeper Amy Wheaton made five saves, including four in the first half, for Stonehill; while sophomore
Jessica Gerski did not need to make a save throughout the afternoon, although she flawlessly directed traffic within the box.
Saint Rose had several opportunities to for an insurance tally. Senior midfielder
Christina Cuffari hit the crossbar twice within a 12-minute time frame during the first half. She also launched a shot from 20-yards out that sailed just right with 37:50 elapsed. Meanwhile, freshman midfielder
Cenayda Guzman flicked a ball just wide right in the 40th minute.
That being said, Saint Rose has now outscored its opponents by a 48-3 margin on the year and has not allowed a goal since surrendering a last minute strike in a 3-1 triumph at Southern New Hampshire (9/11/11), a span that now stretches 540:23.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a week off before welcoming NE-10 rival Saint Anselm to Sullivan Field. Kickoff is set for 12:00 pm next Saturday. Meanwhile, the Skyhawks have a 4:00 pm date Tuesday against visiting conference rival Bentley in Easton, MA.
